History of Amrita Vidyalayam, Thrissur
Amrita Vidyalayams are a chain of value based schools managed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math. Years back, a group of devotees, of Matha Amrithanandamayi, from Kodungallur, approached her with an appeal to start a school in their home town.
She agreed to begin the school, perceiving it the best way to influence the future generation, to create a better world with peace and harmony. Thus the first educational endeavour of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math came into effect on June 1, 1987 with the establishment of an English medium school at Kodungallur named Amritha Vidyalayam.
Gradually, more Amrita Vidyalayam schools were started in many other places within and outside the State. Most of the schools, under the Math, in Kerala are affiliated to the CBSE and one is affiliated to ICSE.
In Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, most of the Amritha Vidyalayams follow the curriculum of the respective state educational departments and boards.
